Edwards & Co. Solicitors are leading an action in Northern Ireland against Volkswagen Group in respect of the emissions scandal, which is estimated to have affected 11 million vehicles worldwide and potentially 70,000 in Northern Ireland.
This claim is restricted to vehicles purchased in Northern Ireland.
In September 2015, the United States Environmental Protection Agency discovered that the Volkswagen Group had manufactured diesel vehicles which were fitted with software designed to circumvent strict NOx emission regulations. In effect the “defeat” device was a cheat rather than a solution to reducing NOx emissions.
The Volkswagen Group has promoted a clean diesel image which, in part, has led to vehicles commanding a premium price. This deception has, therefore, led to legal action being taken against the Volkswagen Group worldwide so that those affected by the issue can claim for compensation.
If you own a 1.2 litre, 1.6 litre or 2.0 litre diesel engine made between 2009 and 2015 by Volkswagen, Audi, Seat or Skoda, then it is quite likely that your vehicle will have been affected. You can check to see if your vehicle has been affected by using the online checker here>>
